Are You Sharing Your Story?

“Hey, I’m Hal. Say, do you have a couple minutes?” is what I sometimes ask people as we sit in line at a coffee shop.

“Sure, I’m just waiting for my coffee,” is a typical response.

“Well, I just want to share with you my 15 second story and share an illustration with you but if your coffee gets done before that, no worries.”

“Okay.”

“Great! Well, there was a time in my life when I lost my job in ministry, my marriage was on the rocks and I was spiraling into depression, but I asked Jesus to forgive me and made Him King of my life. Now, I have joy, purpose and a peace like never before! Do you have a story like that?”

Often they tell me about their faith journey, whether they are a disciple, a “Christmas/Easter” type or have no faith at all. Sometimes I get to share the gospel with a tool called “The Two Kingdoms.”

A year and a half ago, I was having coffee with a guy and got to share how Jesus became my Savior when I was 12 and how at the age of 18 I asked Jesus to be my “Lord” or King of my life. From there, God worked hard on me for almost 30 years until I got to a place a few years ago where I was free! I recommitted my life to Him and He transformed the biggest and ugliest stuff in my life (the deepest sin or the “sins of commission”) and I was completely free!

That day, my friend Cory received Jesus as his Savior and God is still working in his life!

So I have a question for you! Do you have a story like that? Have you allowed Jesus to clean the deepest places in your heart? Jesus said: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and
you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
